Body image in the treatment of eating disorders: For health professionals (Available upon request for groups)

Learn how to confidently navigate body image concerns to enhance the effectiveness of eating disorder treatment.

Overview

This 3-hour training will provide you with practical tools to support your clients/patients in managing body image concerns, which are often at the core of eating disorders. These concerns frequently interfere with treatment by generating anxiety, ambivalence, and resistance.

As dietitians, psychologists, and other health professionals, we are not always equipped to address the distress related to body image. This training offers techniques to reduce avoidance behaviors, challenge negative thoughts, strengthen self-confidence, and promote body acceptance. You will be better prepared to support a more peaceful and compassionate relationship with the body—an essential component of effective and sustainable care.

  1. Understand the mechanisms of body image and its role in eating disorders.
  2. Identify the impact of body image concerns on treatment and learn how to address them constructively.
  3. Acquire tools and intervention techniques to help reduce negative body image concerns.
  4. Learn how to intervene while staying within your professional scope of practice.
  5. Support the evolution of clients/patients toward a healthier, more positive, and sustainable body image.
