L'image corporelle dans le traitement des troubles alimentaires chez l'athlète : Pour les professionnel.le.s de la santé (En anglais)

Confidently address body image concerns in athletes to improve eating disorder treatment and promote sustainable performance.

Description

This 3-hour training is designed for health professionals who work with athletes and wish to strengthen their ability to address body image concerns—an issue that often lies at the heart of eating disorders and disordered eating in sport.

In athletic environments, body image pressures can be intensified by performance expectations, body composition monitoring, and sport culture. These factors can increase anxiety, ambivalence, or resistance during treatment.

As dietitians, psychologists, physicians, and other health professionals, we are not always equipped to navigate this complex dynamic between body image, identity, and performance. This training will provide concrete tools and evidence-informed strategies to:

  • Reduce avoidance and checking behaviors,
  • Challenge distorted body thoughts related to sport performance,
  • Strengthen self-confidence and self-compassion, and
  • Promote a balanced and respectful relationship with one’s body and athletic identity.
  • You will leave with greater confidence to support athletes in building a healthier relationship with their body—an essential component of both recovery and sustainable performance.

Objectives

  1. Understand how body image develops and operates within athletic contexts, and its role in disordered eating and performance challenges.
  2. Identify the specific ways body image concerns can interfere with treatment or performance, and learn strategies to address them constructively.
  3. Acquire practical tools and intervention techniques to help athletes reduce negative body image thoughts and behaviors.
  4. Learn how to intervene appropriately while remaining within your professional scope of practice.
  5. Support athletes in developing a more positive, realistic, and sustainable relationship with their body and performance.
